Adams will share historical background on the intrepid Issei Buddhists who petitioned the Hongwanji Temple in Kyoto for Dharma teachers to be dispatched from Japan, and the pioneering efforts of Rev. Dr. Shuye Sonoda, the first Jodo Shinshu Buddhist missionary who arrived San Francisco on September 1, 1899.
