Sister Wendy Kang-Tzu Chi Buddhist Volunteer Organization (November 6)

Tzu Chi offers compassionate care to people in need throughout the world based on Buddhist principles, including disaster relief for wildfires here in California and the recent hurricanes Helene and Milton.  Tzu Chi also provides medical care, charity, and education programs.

Ms. Kang, often known in Tzu Chi as Kang Lao Shi, is passionate about the wellness of children through an inside out approach. She believes that all students have a gift and can live a joyful life.  As a mother of two young adults, she was a board member of PTAs, a Boy Scout of America troop committee member, and is a Tzu Chi education projects volunteer for over 15 years.  Besides volunteering in her community, Ms. Kang enjoys her spiritual practices through yoga, meditation, and studying.

Maya Togashi-My Trip to Mount Koya (October 2)

SMBT Sangha Member Maya Togashi will share thoughts and impressions from her recent trip to the sacred Buddhist sites on Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture Japan.  Mount Koya was established as a center for esoteric Buddhist practices by the monk Kukai (a.k.a. Kobo Daishi), founder of the Shingon school in early the 9th century.  Since that time, Mount Koya has come to include important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists from a variety of traditions, including sites dedicated to Shinran Shonin and other important teachers of the Pure Land tradition.
